Seth Hardwick has had a great two days in the first flight of bareback riders at the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo.
He split second in the first performance on Thursday night with 80.5 and won the performance on Friday afternoon with 82 points on Big Rafter’s Dark Rose.
“Sometimes they’ll just give you a little trick there, but then he set up and he was pretty, worked out it was fun,” Hardwick said after Friday’s ride.
At the National Western, every cowboy competes in consecutive performances with the Top 24 in the Average in each event moving on to a tournament-style semifinal.
Hardwick currently leads the bareback riding Average through the first 13 competitors with 162.5 points on two. Coop Cooke is second with 158.
“Getting the year started, you’re just trying to get back to the basics and do things correct,” Hardwick said. “Just keep things consistent, hopefully go all the way to the Short Round.”
