It’s early in the 2022 season, but rookies have had since October to start earning money toward the 2022 PRCA World Standings. So, it’s never too early to get a look at the Resistol Rookie of the Year race.
In the bareback riding, it is Colton Clemens on top with $3,024. The Idaho cowboy is in his position thanks to a couple of checks at the Columbia River Circuit Finals back in October. Bodee Lammers, a Texas Circuit finalist who competed all over the state in October, is the only other rookie bareback rider to make more than $1,000 so far.
In saddle bronc riding and bull riding, the dollar amounts are a little high for the rookies. Starting in the saddle bronc riding, where three cowboys have made over $7,000 already.
Australian Damian Brennan has a little over $9,000. He has already made five checks of $1,500 or more in the 2022 season and has registered three rides marked 85 points or higher. Kody Rinhart is No. 2 with $8,234 and Cash Wilson is No. 3 with $7,096. Rinhart won a majority of his money at the Southeastern Circuit Finals and Wilson did so at the Extreme Collision in Tatum, Texas and the Brawley Cattle Call in California.
In bull riding, the numbers get even larger. Lukasey Morris headlines a trio of rookie bull riders who have all banked more than $12,000 already. Morris has won $25,903 and not only leads the rookie standings, but also leads the PRCA World Standings. Morris has won eight checks of more than $1,000 already.
His closest competition is Bubba Greig at nearly $20,000. Over half of Greig’s money has come from winning Bulls in the Ballpark in Austin. He also was the champion at the Brawley Cattle Call and Batesville Xtreme Bulls (Mississippi). Jack Gilmore is third with $12,834.
