PRCA Team Roping (Headers) Standing Shuffle: Clay Tryan heads to 19th NFR along with a loaded field

There are plenty of stories to talk about on the head side of the team roping in the final PRCA World Standings, stars at the top of the leaderboard, big September standings jumos and fan favorites who barely secured their spots, but first No. 5 Clay Tryan ($94,250) needs to be highlighted.

Tryan, 42, has made the Wrangler NFR 19 times, winning World Titles in 2005, 2013 and 2014 and has more NFR qualifications than any other cowboy in the field in 2021. The Montana native won five rodeos this year, including San Angelo, Kennewick and Cody.

Tryan will have stiff competition as the guys ahead of him though, the top of the leaderboard features cowboys we’ve gotten used to seeing take victory laps at the Thomas & Mack Center and in total, the Top 5 of this year’s NFR have combined for 49 NFR qualifications.

Dustin Egusquiza ($147,516) is No. 1 in the PRCA World Standings, a spot he has held since the beginning of July. He and his partner Travis Graves have won a whopping 13 rodeos in 2021.

Behind Egusquiza is 10-time NFR qualifier and 2020 Average Champion Erich Rogers ($122,017). Rogers’ big wins this season came at RFD-TV’s The American and the San Angelo Cinch Chute-Out.

No. 3 is Kaleb Driggers ($199,330), who has finished in the Top 3 in five of the last six years, but never won a World Title. He is back roping with Junior Nogueira after missing the NFR last year.

The final cowboy in front of Tryan, may one day end up being as decorated as him. Clay Smith ($110,570) has now made seven straight NFRs and in 2018 and 2019, he left Vegas a World Champion.

In the middle of the NFR pack, Cody Snow ($79,677) and Rhen Richard ($71,545) were the biggest movers in the final month of the season. Snow went from No. 13 to No. 7 and Richard went from No. 15 to No. 10.

And finally, in the bubble race, the aforementioned fan-favorite Coleman Proctor ($62,755) secured the No. 14 spot and Quinn Kesler ($62,403) came in at No. 15, beating out Riley Minor by less than $500.

ALL PRCA WORLD STANDINGS TOTAL ARE CURRENTLY IN AUDIT AFTER THE SEASON ENDED SEPT. 30, THESE STANDINGS ARE UNOFFICIAL.
