Rodeo Rapid City Highlights and Payouts

Shad Mayfield Wins in Rapid City

Rodeo Rapid City was full of big names and even bigger scores. Saturday night’s performance saw an arena record, young guns earning big paydays, and a big crowd to watch it all unfold.

In bareback riding it was a tie at the top. Jayco Roper and Jess Pope posted 89.5 point rides to take home a check of $3.986 each.

In steer wrestling, Jake Kraupie posted a 3.5-second run all the way back in the slack round, but that would hold up throughout the rodeo. Kraupie took home a $4,644 check thanks to the impressive run. There was a logjam in second and third place as Sterling Lambert and Gabe Burrows tied for second with a 3.7-second run and five cowboys tied for third at 3.8 seconds including 2020 NFR qualifier Bridger Anderson.

In bull riding, JR Stratford put on a show. Stratford posted one of the best rides you will ever see and set a new arena record with a 93.5 point ride on New Frontier Rodeo’s High Expectations. With this being the last year the rodeo will be held at Barnett Arena, Stratford will make his mark on the record book at an arena that has so much history inside its walls.
