South Dakota’s Own Cole Elshere Goes 90 Points on Onion Ring to Take the Rodeo Rapid City XTreme Broncs Title

He had a rough end to the 2020 season, walking away from the NFR with no money won and in need of physical therapy on his shoulder, but Cole Elshere isn’t letting a disappointing December affect him in the new year. He’s reset, rehabbed, and is starting 2021 off strong, getting his first big win in his “hometown” (Elshere lives just a couple hours Northwest of Rapid City in Faith, South Dakota).

With a 90 point ride on 5X NFR bucking horse Onion Ring from Korkow Rodeos, the 4X NFR qualifier took the Rodeo Rapid City XTreme Broncs title and $4,146 in prize money.

“I just had faith that God would help me today and gave me peace during that ride,” said Elshere, “and I just went back to the basics, and Onion Ring did a great job of bucking underneath me and making work.”

On winning in Rapid City, he said, “Rodeo is the South Dakota state sport and everybody just loves bronc riding that’s around here and has either done it or been a part of it in some fashion. So having all my family and all of my friends here, it’s been amazing.”
