Coming off his first Wrangler NFR in 2020, bareback rider Leighton Berry had big goals.
The 22-year-old finished ninth in the world last year and said his plan was to not only ride bucking horses in 2021, but to also calf rope and steer rope.
Those plans have been put on hold after he suffered torn ligaments in two different parts of his spine at the Sandhills Stock Show and Rodeo. He will undergo surgery to repair the damage next week.
Berry is currently third in the world and has already made more than $6,200 in the 2021 season.
With the six-month recovery time, Berry hopes to be back in mid-July.
