Meet the 2020 NFR Athletes - Westyn Hughes

Westyn Hughes

Before the 2020 season, Westyn Hughes’ best finish was 20th in the World Standings. He shattered his career-best by finishing in fifth place and is heading to his first career NFR. Hughes has a big opportunity to improve his standings at the NFR in Arlington, he currently sits just under $6,700 out of second place.

The best weekend of the season came in February for Hughes. He won round one and finished second overall at the La Fiesta De Los Vaqueros Rodeo, earning him $4,656 on the weekend.

After the COVID-19 delay was over, Hughes got right back to it, placing in the top-five at the Black Hills Roundup, which added $2,000 to his pocket.

Late August was the best stretch of the season for Westyn. Between August 15 and 23 he made more than $1,000 at three of four rodeos including earning $2,200 at the Fallon County Fair and Rodeo.

Hughes wrapped up the season with momentum, winning more than $5,000 at the ProRodeo Tour Finale. His Tour Finale was highlighted by a second-round 8.1-second ride which was good for second place.

WESTYN HUGHES - 8.1 SECONDS, TOUR FINALE

Westyn Hughes burst onto the scene in 2020 and will look to continue to surprise people at the 2020 NFR in Arlington. Hughes has a great chance to jump up in the standings, but it appears second place will be the highest any cowboy can climb not named Shad Mayfield. Look for Hughes to continue his impressive season this December in Arlington.
