Team roper Charly Crawford is headed to his tenth NFR with partner Logan Medlin in December, and he’s announced that, now expecting another baby with wife Jackie Crawford, this year will be his last run at a gold buckle.
“I’ve got a good as chance as I’ve ever had right here to finish on top, so it’s exciting,” says Charly. “I’ve got a little girl coming, and it’s time to be a Dad. And I’m looking forward to it. You can’t hardly get me in the rig anymore.”
But that doesn’t mean he won’t be keeping busy. For one, Charley and Jackie will continue to host their annual Veteran’s Day team roping school — which this year will be a three-day event including a two-day school and a roping invitational. The final day of roping will kick off with a military/first responders roping followed by a celebrity roping, pairing entrees with NFR guys, in any event.
“So you might draw from Clay Smith to Wade Sundell to Tilden Hooper to Mike White. You know, we want this to be fun.”
The final night will then close out with an NFR shootout, showcasing the Top 15 in the World going head-to-head in five full rounds. “So the guys in the military who can’t go to the NFR — whether they can’t afford it or can’t take the time off — I’m going to bring the NFR to them,” says Charly.
Being held at the Lonestar Arena in Stephenville, Texas, the event is all a benefit for Homes for Heros, building homes for military families.
