It isn’t known as “Bronc Rider U” for no reason.
Panhandle State University in Guymon, Oklahoma, is where some of the best in the business went to college — to learn from greats like 9X NFR qualifier Craig Latham, 2X world champion and Hall of Famer Robert Etbauer, and 10X NFR qualifier Dan Etbauer (brothers of 5X world champion Billy Etbauer).
Their rodeo program has honed the skills of athletes such as Cort Scheer, Taos Muncy, Jake Watson, Orin Larsen, Allen Boore, Hardy Braden, and Jake Finlay.
“I knew if I wanted to be a bronc rider at any level, I was going there, regardless,” says Finlay, currently ranked No. 19 in the World. “I was going to Panhandle State.”
While there, he also won the College National Finals Rodeo title. “You had to get there and act professional, be professional, ride professional, because in the practice pen there was nothing but professionals.”
