Athlete Profile: Tie-Down Roper Ty Harris

Ty Harris has loved roping since first picking up a rope at his grandfather’s house as a young kid. “I never wanted to get it out of my hand after that,” says the San Angelo, Texas, cowboy. By the time he was 12, he’d set his mind on making his career out of it.

In 2018, Ty won the Intercollegiate Championship and was named the PRCA | Resistol Rookie of the Year. In 2019, he went to his first Wrangler NFR and finished ninth in the world. This year, he’s won in Jackson and Lafayette, placed in the average at Denver, and won both Dodge City and Sidney in the same weekend.

“It’s dedication, and you have to really be obsessed with it,” says Harris, who’s currently No. 5 in the Standings, “and really, you got to eat, sleep, and breathe it.”
