At the Guymon Rodeo with Tyson Durfey

On the first night of rodeo performances at the Guymon Pioneer Days in Guymon, Oklahoma, Janie Johnson catches up with world champion tie-down roper Tyson Durfey.

Tyson, who is currently sitting No. 17 in the World Standings, talks about his strategy for the end of the season, his current injury and how he’s working through it, where he’s headed in the next couple of weeks, and his wife, Shea Fisher Durfey, getting back into the music business.

On his plan for getting to the NFR and thriving under pressure when outside of the Top 15, Tyson says, “I think it’s just a deep belief in yourself. That no matter what happens, you’re going to do whatever it takes to win and get to the top, and I’ve been in this position more than I’d like to say. It’s a very comfortable position for me, you know, but at the end of the day, we just have to execute the game plan, like don’t change the fight plan ... so just because I’m 17 doesn’t mean I try to take any risks, it just means I go rope and have fun.”
