One of the Top Teams in ProRodeo: Nelson Wyatt and Levi Lord

Nelson Wyatt and Levi Lord came together as a new team in 2019. That first year, they won more than $30,000 during the July run. This year, even with a limited amount of rodeos, they finished out July with nearly $30,000 — and the highest placing percentage of any team in ProRodeo.

While looking back at some of their recent runs, we talk to Wyatt (currently No. 9 in the Standings) and Lord (No. 8) about when they each got their start in rodeo, how they came together as partners, and what makes it work so well.

A lot of their success can be credited to years of dedication, hard work, and good horses, but a positive outlook also plays a big role for these cowboys. According to Lord, the key is not taking it too seriously and always remaining grateful to be doing what you love, whether winning or losing.

“What would I rather be doing? Nothin.’ Even if I’m out here having heck, I’d still rather be out here than home working,” he says. “This is what we’ve worked for and this is what we’ve dreamed about doing, and thank God we have the skills, and the family, and the horses, and everything coming together for us to be able to be out here doing it. We’re just really lucky. There’s a lot of people who’d love to take our place, so anytime you’re down about it or wanting to have a bad attitude, you just take a look at it like that, and it will turn you around, I think.”
