Whitney DeSalvo never thought she’d be making history when entering the Bob Feist Invitational, but that’s exactly what the 25-year-old heeler from Arkansas did — in more ways than one.
At the Charlie 1 Horse All Girls Challenge Team Roping during BFI week, DeSalvo made headlines by winning first, second, AND third in the team roping, heeling for Hope Thompson, Lari Dee Guy, and Audery Hart. Then a few weeks later, she was informed that her new handicap would be an 8, making her the first female heeler ever to earn a #8 classification.
DeSalvo recently talked to Western Sports Roundup host Steve Kenyon about her experience at the BFI, finding out about her new qualification, and learning from greats such as Shay Carroll and Paul Eaves, and her goals for the upcoming year.
