It’s a lot of work, keeping bucking stock fed, exercised, and rested during the National Western rodeo season. Then there’s the task of hauling them to and from Denver Coliseum. From the Cervi Championship Rodeo company, no animal will perform more than twice throughout the 16 days of rodeo, and the ranch has some 300 horses and 150 bulls to tend to.

While in town for the National Western Stock Show & Rodeo, Justin McKee visited the Cervi family of the historic Cervi Championship Rodeo on their ranch in Weld County, Colorado, to see firsthand how they prep their bucking horses and bulls for the big event.

“The Cowboy Channel’s live coverage of Denver’s championship weekend was a huge move forward for rodeo and also a big step for me,” says McKee. “Even though I’ve helped with several video features for TV in the past, this was my first experience as the producer. The video profiles and the opening video on Sunday’s show came together exactly like I had envisioned. Thank you to my partner Matt Avant who shot and edited. Thanks also goes out to the Cervi’s and their incredible bucking Horses and scenic ranch.”
