Woopaa has quickly become one of the most famous bulls in the PBR as he has carried two-time World Champion Jose Vitor Leme to multiple record-breaking scores and has an average bull score of almost 46 points in three years in the PBR.
On Road to PBR World Finals, Laramie Wilson of the Hookin’ W Ranch explained how the legendary bull got his name.
Larry Barker raised Woopaa and had a good friend named JP, who passed away of his cancer. JP’s family wanted to honor him by naming a bull after him, but Barker didn’t think JP sounded good on TV, so they used something of a catch phrase of his.
“JP was known for that when anything was exciting going on, he would run around yelling ‘Woopaa.’ So, Larry told JP’s wife, I’ll name a bull after him, but it’s going to be ‘Woopaa,’” Wilson said. “Never knew he would go as far as he has, but Woopaa stuck with him at the beginning of his 4-year-old.”
Hosts Matt West and Janie Johnson also pointed out that there needs to be energy in your voice when pronouncing his name to do it properly.
Woopaa is currently No. 1 in the 2022 PBR Bull Standings after being named Yeti World Champion Bull in 2021.
