Stevi Hillman describes the first time she trained a race horse to become a barrel racing horse

Stevi Hillman is in the process of training a new barrel horse, one that has plenty of experience going fast. The horse, Born To B, won the 2017 Speedhorse Derby and has won almost $300,000 total.

This, however, is not the first time Hillman has taken a horse from the track to the rodeo arena. In 2011, she started training a race horse named Hammer. Hillman and Hammer would go on to team up to win Reserve Rookie of the Year in 2012.

“He made a great rodeo horse,” she said. “He was a lot of fun to train and that sparked my passion for training a race horse.”

You can watch the full interview with Stevie and the horse’s owner Melissa Slayton here.
