Dirk Tavenner has qualified for his second consecutive National Finals Rodeo. After getting a big taste of success during last year and the 2021 NFR, Tavenner tackled the 2022 season with a whole new perspective.

Consistency was key for the Idaho cowboy has he had multiple 3.6’s and would stop the clock at the same time, on the dot, in multiple arenas.

With that said, here is a look at Tavenner’s 2022 season.

BIGGEST PAYDAYS

Rodeo Houston, $9,750

Tavenner started Rodeo Houston by pulling the No. 4 check in the first round. He ended Rodeo Houston with an eighth-place finish in the Super Shoot out Championship Round. The longer, tournament style rodeos are a place where Tavenner thrives, and Houston was no different.

Calgary Stampede, $7,500

Tavenner hit a hot streak over the summer and at the Calgary Stampede, he won Round 2 of Pool A with a 4.2-second run before he went on the finish third in the Wild Card Round with a 4.6-second run.

FASTEST RUNS

San Angelo Rodeo, 3.7 Seconds

In Round 2 of the San Angelo Rodeo, Tavenner made a run of 3.7 seconds that ended up putting him in a tie with two other steer wrestlers but would be just one tenth slower than his fastest time of the year.

National Western Stock Show and Rodeo, 3.6 Seconds

Round 2 seems to be Tavenner’s best round this season, along with the time of 3.6 seconds. He made four other runs through out the year where he stopped the clock at 3.6 but it all started in Denver where he tied to win the round.

NOTABLE WINS

Back When They Bucked, 9.0 Seconds on Two

In Deadwood, South Dakota, you needed to be quick to pull a check and Tavenner was just that. A 4.5-second run tied him for second in the First Round and his consistency paid off when he stopped the clock at 4.5 seconds again in the Final Round to cinch the average.

Evanston Cowboy Days, 3.6 Seconds

Tavenner won the Evanston Cowboy Days by four tenths of a second. He laid down a 3.6, another fast time of the year for the two time NFR qualifier, to round out his 2022 regular season.
