South Dakota’s Eli Lord Makes Quick Work of Rodeo Austin Round 1 to take the Lead

Eli Lord stops the clock at 4.8 seconds to make himself the steer wrestler to beat in Round 1.

Eli Lord’s 4.8-second run at Rodeo Austin is the second fastest time we have seen so far and he knew going into the performance, that he had just the shot he needed to take the lead.

“We get to check the draw and you get to call around. That steer had went in Jackson a couple of times last month so I knew he was just supposed to leave average, run average, maybe let off a little bit. So you’ve just got to get a good start, do your job after that,” Lord said.

With the Top 8 in the Aggregate moving on to the Short Round, Lord’s game plan for Round 2 is simple. He hopes to draw good and do his job again.

Rookie Ty Bauerle’s 3.7-second run is leading Round 2 with Levi Rudd’s 5.2 in second leaving plenty of space for some leaderboard shuffling as Rodeo Austin continues.
