It started off sunny and beautiful and ended a muddy mess at the Sisters Rodeo in Oregon. Regardless of weather, some permit holders made their mark and a longstanding arena record fell at the Biggest Little Show in the World.
That permit holder who made noise was 19-year-old bareback rider Keenan Hayes. The Colorado native was marked 85.5 points in the mud on Flying 5’s Miss Major as part of a weekend in which he won three rodeos in three different states.
As for the new arena record holder, that would be CoBurn Bradshaw. The saddle bronc rider was 89.5 points on Flying 5’s Spring Plantin to win the rodeo and have the highest marked ride at a rodeo that has been running since 1940. It was the horse’s first out of 2022.
In the final roughstock event of the rodeo, Ky Hamilton won the bull riding with 88.5 points aboard Billy Hell. He was one of six bull riders marked 85 points or more at the event and is now No. 8 in the PRCA World Standings.
In steer wrestling, Jace Melvin won the two-head Average by placing third in the First Round and fifth in the Second Round with runs of 5.2 and 5.3 seconds. This was Melvin’s first weekend rodeoing since March 25-26.
In team roping, it was only a one-header and Jake Cooper/Sid Sporer and Rhen Richard/Jeremy Buhler each made just over $3,000 for matching 5 second flat runs.
The top earning timed event cowboy at the Sister Rodeo was tie-down roper Ty Harris. The three-time NFR qualifier was 18.6 seconds on two head to win more than $5,000. He has placed on four of his last five rounds.
And in barrel racing, Taycie Matthews stopped the clock at 17.73 seconds to get the win.
