Shane Hanchey stayed as consistent as it gets at the Greeley Stampede and it paid off. After an 8.4 and 8.5 in the Long Rounds, he came back in the Short Go to be 8.3 seconds to take home the Championship title.
“Coming from kind of the back of the pack, we’ve seen this all week, I knew nine tenths [of a second] separated first through twelfth, so this was one of the toughest calf ropings that we’ve been a part of all year. I knew if I could just break the ice… I knew if I could just make my run, I was coming with a wrap and a hooey regardless,” Hanchey said.
The field in the Short Round featured Shad Mayfield, Cory Solomon, Riley Webb, Tuf Cooper and Caleb Smidt in addition to Hanchey.
With a talented lineup and a pen of calves that gave every cowboy in the Short Round a chance to win, the Greeley Stampede calf roping was one to watch.
Hanchey walked away with over $8,500 added to his season earnings and he sits No. 12 in the PRCA World Standings.
