Outside of Lisa Lockhart, no one in any event has more consecutive NFR qualifications than Shane Hanchey’s 15.

Coming off of another Top 10 finish in 2023, Hanchey enters the 2024 NFR No. 5 in the World and is showing no signs of slowing down at age 35.

Crooked River Roundup Rodeo, $6,031

Hanchey began 100 Rodeos in 100 Days No. 26 in the World but quickly began to heat up, and then started in Prineville, Oregon. He was 9.6 in Round 1 and 8.9 in Round to win the Average by seven tenths of a second.

Reno Rodeo, $8,929

Hanchey stayed hot the weekend after Crooked River by making the Finals at the rodeo that officially kicks off 100 Rodeos in 100 Days.

In Reno, he made three runs between 8.6 and 9.9 seconds to finish second in the Average at 27.2 seconds. It was the best finish of his career there.

Greeley Stampede, $7,428

Hanchey once again stayed solid in the Average and placed fourth in both the First Round and the Finals. He was 29.6 seconds on three, which was good for fourth overall. Kincade Henry won the rodeo with an aggregate time of 26.6 seconds.

Greeley concluded on July 3 and by the end of Cowboy Christmas, less than three weeks after he was outside the Top 25, Hanchey was ranked No. 5 in the World.

Dinsoaur Roundup Rodeo, $4,512

Hanchey’s other Playoff Series victory this season, outside of Crooked River, came in Vernal, Utah, where he clocked in at 7.9 seconds to take the one-header title. His time was a full second ahead of NFR qualifiers Quade Hiatt and Riley Webb, who tied for second place.

It was his sixth win in Utah since 2021 and third in the last two seasons.

Horse Heaven Roundup, $5,553

In late August, Hanchey placed in all three rounds in Kennewick, Washington with times of 8.1, 7.5 and 8.6 seconds. In a competitive roping, his 24.2 seconds on three was good enough for fourth behind Marty Yates, Haven Meged and Riley Pruitt.

Cinch Playoffs Puyallup, $11,476

Hanchey stacked three more times of 8.5 seconds or faster at first leg of the Cinch Playoffs. He was fourth in the Go-Round on each of his first two runs with an 8.3 and an 8.5 before finishing with an 8.1 to finish second to Shad Mayfield in the Finals, which paid $9,750.

Governor’s Cup, $9,625

Hanchey had just one qualified time at the $1 million rodeo in Sioux Falls to close the regular season, but he made it count with a 7.2 to win Round 2. It was his third fastest run of the season and his last of six runs of 7.5 Seconds or Faster.
