Shane Hanchey Eyes 16th NFR Trip as 2025 Season Nears Its End

Just $370. That’s all that separates 2013 World Champion Tie Down Roper Shane Hanchey from a spot in the top 15 as the 2025 rodeo season quickly winds down.

Hanchey has had a strong year, claiming victories at Canby, Oregon, the Mountain Valley Stampede, and the Old West Rodeo, along with picking up solid checks throughout the season. His efforts have earned him $122,957 so far, but it’s been a fiercely competitive race, with tie down ropers across the board delivering standout performances and earning considerable paychecks.

Like many others, Hanchey is banking on a big showing at the Governor’s Cup in Sioux Falls, one of the final opportunities to secure crucial earnings and lock in a trip to Las Vegas. For Hanchey, it would mark his 16th qualification for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.

With the Governor’s Cup kicking off tonight, all eyes are on the leaderboard. It’s shaping up to be a dramatic finish as ropers battle for a coveted spot in the top 15 when the dust finally settles.
