Former World Champions Shane Hanchey and Tuf Cooper have been trading off weeks in the No. 1 spot in the PRCA World Tie-Down Roping Standings for months, but with about seven weeks left in the season, Hanchey has gotten a bit of breathing room.
Hanchey currently has $137,087 to Cooper’s $119,957 and he’s getting it done by simply winning bigger checks.
Since July 14, Hanchey was won a little more than $30,000, while Cooper has won just over $6,000 since that same date.
Cooper had taken the lead in the World Standings after a stellar Cowboy Christmas run, but Hanchey answered the call right back by winning $13,750 at The Calgary Stampede and then about $10,000 from winning the Fiesta Days Rodeo in Spanish Fork, Utah the weekend after Calgary.
Hanchey has the edge in average score (10.34 seconds to 11.17 seconds) and runs under 8.5 seconds (31-25). Cooper, however, has more Go-Round wins with 11 to Hanchey’s 6.
