Shad Mayfield stopped the clock at 7.7 seconds to be splitting Rodeo Austin. It was a tough roping on Sunday night and Mayfield pulled out the fastest time but the rodeo was the last thing on his mind.
“I knew I had a good calf and my horse was working great, really that was the last thing I was worried about today, as they’re battling fires back home. Just hoping we get prayers for healing over that but the run was great, hopefully make two more of those,” Mayfield said.
Right as Mayfield pulled into Austin to rope on Sunday, he got a call that a fire had started near his home. Although he thought about turning around, he’s grateful for great friends that got all of Mayfield’s horses and cattle to safety.
“Hopefully they get the fire put out before it gets there, it’s all in God’s hands now,” he said.
Currently leading the tie-down at Rodeo Austin is Tyler Milligan while Mayfield is tied for second with Jake Pratt.
