With a number of rodeos canceled or postponed for the early part of 2021, the Sandhills Stock Show and Rodeo in Odessa is one of the biggest on the calendar in the first two months of the year.

It now has the designation to match as it was named ProRodeo Tour event in December, meaning more prize money and chances to qualify for bigger rodeos throughout the season.

The rodeo, which begins on Jan. 7, will get $8,000 added to its total prize money and the points will not count toward the Pro Tour Finale at the end of September. The Top 24 in ProRodeo Tour events advance to the Tour Finale.

In Odessa, the Top 24 cowboys who haven’t yet earned their spot in San Antonio will be invited to a qualifier.

Notable winners of the event in 2020 included Shad Mayfield in the tie-down roping and Colten Fritzlan in the bull riding.
