Montana cowboy Sam Petersen joined Western Sports Roundup last week to talk about his 2025 rodeo season. At the time, he was sitting 12th in the PRCA World Standings, but he has already climbed two spots and is now currently 10th.
Petersen has been making waves this season, cashing in at major events like Fort Worth and RodeoHouston, as well as picking up checks at Canadian stops such as Taber and Falkland.
Along with hopes of making his first National Finals Rodeo this year, Petersen also has his sights set on a trip to the Canadian National Finals, working hard to earn a spot at both prestigious events.
Last year, Petersen narrowly missed breaking into the top 15 after an untimely injury at a college rodeo stalled his momentum.
“My rookie year and then last year, just finishing right outside of it, it was tough,” Petersen said. “Especially watching my traveling partner, Weston Timberman, make his first NFR, I wanted to be right there with him. But you know, it’s God’s timing, and I’m here to trust it. I’m excited for the rest of this summer and feel very fortunate just to be rodeoing.”
