Sage Newman Hoping to Finish off Dominant 2022 Season with First World Title

Meet the NFR Athletes is Presented by Montana Silversmiths

Sage Newman

It has been a career year for Sage Newman, who currently holds a $60,000 lead over Stetson Wright and is in line for his first World Title.

His $253,191 are a PRCA Saddle Bronc Riding regular season record. Newman, however, still has plenty of work to do if he wants to hold off the field at his second career NFR as Stetson Wright, Ryder Wright, Brody Cress and Zeke Thurston are among the cowboys within striking distance of the top spot.

BIGGEST PAYDAYS

RodeoHouston, $61,000

It was a great start to the year for Sage as he was crowned the champion at RodeoHouston. Newman cashed a check in six rounds, including taking the Finals and the $50,000 check that comes with it. Newman was marked 93 points in the Championship Round to edge out Wyatt Casper’s 90-point ride.

Xtreme Broncs Finals, $13,903

Newman started the Xtreme Broncs Finals with a 90-point ride on Burch Rodeo’s Bubble Bath which won the First Round. Newman went 88 points in the Finals which was good for fifth place and a fourth-place finish in the Average.

Reno Rodeo, $12,121

Newman finished as the co-champion alongside Statler Wright as he made rides of 89 points in the final two rounds.

HIGHEST MARKED RIDES

RodeoHouston, 93 Points

It was one of the highest marked rides of the saddle bronc season, and to no surprise, it was good enough to win the Championship Round in Houston and earned Newman a check of $50,000.

Jordan Match Xtreme Bronc Ride, 91 Points

Newman was marked 89 points or higher on four straight rides in mid-June, with a 91-point ride in the finals of the Jordan Match Xtreme Broncs capping the stretch. The 91-point ride was good for second place at the rodeo and won Newman over $2,800.

Caldwell Night Rodeo, 90.5 Points

Newman won more than $3,000 for his first place finish Round 1 of the Caldwell Night Rodeo. He followed it up with 83 in the Finals to finish third in the Average. He left with $5,113, the second most of any saddle bronc rider.

NOTABLE WINS

Clovis Rodeo, 90 Points

About a month after his triumph at RodeoHouston, Newman cashed a big check in California. He made almost $9,000 for his win in Clovis as he edged Jake Finlay by a half-point.

St. Paul Rodeo, 89 Points

Newman went 89 points at the St. Paul Rodeo to take the win and earn over $12,000. Newman beat out Kade Bruno who went 87 points for the championship.

Back When They Bucked Rodeo, 90.5 Points in Finals
