Rookie saddle bronc rider Ryder Sanford left his mark on the in Cheyenne.
Aboard the 2022 Pendleton Whisky Stock of the Year Saddle Bronc Horse, The Black Tie of Sankey Pro Rodeo and Phenom Genetics, Sanford set a new arena record at Cheyenne Frontier Days with a 92.5-point ride. He was met with a standing ovation from the crowd of about 19,000.
The Lousiana native took the record from a Cajun legend, Cody DeMoss, who was marked 91 in 2010.
“It’s great to have that horse where I need him. He’s been great for a long time and I was just glad to strap my saddle to him,” he said.
It was a loaded Short Round in which four cowboys rode for at least 88.5 points.
Sanford sat No. 19 going into Cheyenne and he is inching closer to that Top 15.
