Round 5 Recap: Wyatt Casper Claims First Career NFR Round Win

Round 5 Recap

Wyatt Casper was feeling the pressure after the first four rounds of the NFR. His lead in the Gold Buckle race had shrunk to under $13,000. On Monday he delivered big with his first career NFR round win after a 90.5-point ride on Korkow Rodeo’s Onion Ring.

Ryder Wright was hot on his heels after Wright won two of the first four rounds, but after Round 5 Casper has created some separation, bringing his earnings total to $233,830, nearly $40,000 ahead of Wright.

“This ride really helped tremendously,” Casper said. “I got bucked off last night and hurt me a little bit, not pain-wise, but a little bit in here (head), and we’re glad to get this round win, really needed it.”

Wright does still lead the average with an aggregate of 434.5 on five head and is one of just four cowboys to post a score in all five rounds. Casper sits in fifth place on aggregate at 352.0 on four head.

In Barrel Racing Hailey Kinsel has dominated the first five rounds, winning three of them. She was the first barrel racer to post a time under 17 seconds in her round five win.
