Bareback rider Kade Sonnier got off to a great start at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo after sweeping all the three rounds in Bracket 1.
Sonnier opened up the rodeo with an 85.5-point ride to get his first round win. He followed that up with an 87-point and an 84-point ride which won the next two rounds. Sonnier won $7,500 in the first three rounds and comfortably advanced to the San Antonio Semifinals.
Sonnier also won $8,800 the weekend prior by splitting second in Fort Worth with Chad Rutherford and Kaycee Feild.
With the strong showing, Sonnier jumped to No. 3 in the PRCA World Standings with $29,000 earned on the year. On Feb. 1, he was No. 15.
Sonnier, who is averaging more than 82 points per ride, is looking to make his first career NFR in 2023 and continue the trend of rookie bareback riders finding success in Las Vegas.
