Rory Lemmel on Producing the ProRodeo Tour Finale in Rapid City

When the Washington State Fair and Puyallup Rodeo were canceled due to the pandemic, it looked as if the ProRodeo Tour Finale would be too, but, luckily, Rapid City stepped up to the plate to ensure the event happens.

The ProRodeo Tour Finale is moving to Rapid City, South Dakota’s Central States Fairgrounds in 2020, and taking place September 23 - 26, it marks the last weekend of the season, giving the top 24 athletes in each event one last shot at securing a back number for the National Finals Rodeo.

“It’s great to see Rapid City step in to host this crucial event amid this pandemic,” PRCA CEO George Taylor said. “The PRORODEO Tour Finale is one of the crown jewels in PRORODEO. It’s also a key element in determining qualifiers for the Wrangler NFR and will give the Top 24 competitors in the Tour one more opportunity to make it to Las Vegas.”

Rory Lemmel, producer of the XTreme Broncs Finale, has been tasked with pulling off the event. He talks Steve Kenyon and Janie Johnson about how the decision was made to move the ProRodeo Tour Finale to Rapid City and plans for this year.

With the best cowboys and cowgirls competing and $40,000 added in each event, it’s the biggest rodeo to ever hit South Dakota.
