Kade Sonnier is in the middle of his rookie year making this is first trip to the Ponoka Stampede and he drew the one and only Virgil of C5 Rodeo. A head nod, eight seconds and whistle later, Sonnier put an 89.25-point ride together to sit in the lead.
“He was really strong right out of there and when he hit, I just kind of had to let him go. The third jump, he kind of threw an empty one at me, and after that he felt like a dream,” Sonnier said.
A dream rookie season is what Sonnier is setting himself up for. He currently sits No. 6 in the PRCA World Standings with big money left to be won this summer that the Louisiana bareback rider is gunning for. He has five performances to wait out, but it is very likely that we will see Sonnier at the Ponoka Stampede Short Round.
