The High School Rodeo of B.C. announced yesterday that in light of the current Coronavirus pandemic, the 2020 Canadian High School Rodeo Finals in Merritt has been cancelled.

In a statement posted on their Facebook page, the HSR of B.C. board stated:

In light of the current Provincial Health Order in BC restricting gatherings to 50 or less people and inter Provincial travel being strongly discouraged - the HSR of BC Board or Directors has voted to cancel the 2020 CHSFR. This is not a decision we have taken lightly, however we don’t see any choice in the matter.

We are all very disappointed and heavy hearted that our last year of CHSFR in Merritt is not going to be possible.

We would like to wish all of the competitors headed to Nationals the best of luck. The 2020 graduates all the best in their future endeavors. Hoping for brighter days ahead.

The Peace Region athletes have already qualified for the National Finals Rodeo — which is still set to be held mid-July in Guthrie, Oklahoma — but whether or not border restrictions will prohibit Canadian qualifiers from making the trip is still unknown.
