It is a big week in the world of rodeo, especially in Texas, where two major events are set to take over AT&T Stadium, Kid Rock’s Rock N Rodeo and the Women’s Rodeo World Championship (WRWC). Both will crown new champions this weekend in what promises to be an action-packed celebration of western sports.
Linsay Sumpter plays a key role in both events, serving as the Commissioner of the WRWC and the Assistant Coach of the defending champions at Kid Rock’s Rock N Rodeo, the Freedom Riders.
As a breakaway roper herself, Sumpter understands the importance of creating opportunities for women in rodeo, particularly for those who may not be able to compete year round.
“Our main goal is always to elevate and empower women, and to make the industry better for them,” Sumpter said. “With the inclusion of the Limited classification, and by bringing all three classifications into AT&T Stadium — which is near and dear to my heart — we’re creating an amazing opportunity for women at every level. Implementing goat tying, adding more prize money, and fostering a sense of camaraderie and sisterhood among cowgirls in the Western way of life is so important. We’re here to celebrate and elevate, and I’m glad people are recognizing that.”
At the end of the WRWC, each event champion will take home $60,000, a significant and exciting opportunity for women in the sport.
Meanwhile, Kid Rock’s Rock N Rodeo returns for its second year at AT&T Stadium, with the Freedom Riders, led by Sumpter and Head Coach, aiming to defend their championship title.
Both events take place this Friday and Saturday at AT&T Stadium, offering fans a weekend of unforgettable rodeo action.
