BY BRETT NIERENGARTEN @PRORODEOBRETT

Rocker Steiner leads the Resistol Rookie of the Year race in the bareback riding and has dominated the headlines, especially recently.

There are, however, two other rookie bareback riders in the Top 30 of the PRCA World Standings who could make pushes for the NFR with big summers.

Here is a look at the Top 5 in the Resistol Rookie Standings.

1. Rocker Steiner, $44,841

Despite being sidelined for a few weeks by a knee injury in March and April, Steiner is still No. 10 in the PRCA World Standings. He won $20,000 for is second place finish at RodeoHouston and $10,000 for his recent record-setting 95 point ride on Virgil. For the year, he is averaging 83.4 points per qualified ride.

2. Waylon Bourgeois, $25,715

Waylon Bourgeois has won checks on 12 of his last 15 horses and is in position to get another because he leads the Parker County Sheriff’s Posse Frontier Days through two performances. Bourgeois has won a rodeo in March, April and May, including the Resistol Rookie Roundup. He is No. 27 in the World Standings.

3. Bodee Lammers, $21,357

Bodee Lammers comes in at No. 29 in the World Standings, but only won check in May. He changed his fortune in June, however, by winning two checks in the first weekend of the month. He is already looking to add two more in the second weekend of June as well after riding for 81 points in Cleburne (Texas) and 82 points in Coleman (Texas)

4. Colton Clemens, $9,026

Since the Rookie Roundup concluded on April 30, Clemens has entered just two rodeos. At the most recent of those, the Great Northwest Rodeo (Orgeon), he won with a 76 point ride.

5. Coop Cooke, $5,900

Cooke is averaging nearly 80 points per ride and is coming off of a win at the Fort Herriman PRCA Rodeo (Utah) on June 4 with an 82 point ride. The win earned him his fourth check of more than $1,000 in his professional career.
