Jamie Olsen just won a big check for a second place finish at Rodeo Rapid City and placed third in Hempstead, Texas earlier this year. The South Dakota native leads the Resistol Rookie race in the barrel racing.
Olsen has earned $7,427 total in 2022 and she joined WSR on Tuesday night to discuss the support of her family, what it’s like being a 36-year-old rookie and balancing motherhood with barrel racing competitively for the first time.
“I honestly thought I’d never have a chance barrel racing, I haven’t ever had the horse.....I just felt like it wouldn’t take me through life financially, so I kind of gave up on my dreams and decided that I wanted to be a nurse,” she said. “I just felt, I have the horse, I have the opportunity why not take it now.”
