Remembering the Legendary Hadley Barrett

Hadley Barrett passed away in 2017 and in the years since, the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo has not been the same. Barrett was a longtime announcer at the rodeo and left his impact on the Western World.

Randy Corley, Barrett’s son-in-law remembers his time announcing the rodeo with Barrett fondly.

“He was my father-in-law and my best friend which is a pretty tough thing to have... we did San Antonio for 25 years together and he was just so much fun.”

Each year during the rodeo Hadley would give the prayer from the same spot in front of the bucking shoots. In the years since his passing, the announcing crew has made sure that spot remains reserved for him.

Chairman of the Operations Committee, Bernie Ramirez talks about the tradition, “He would take his spot right in front of the gate, bucking chute number six and that is where he would give his prayer from. We just thought let’s just put some footprints there in the dirt.”

Barrett was with the San Antonio Stock & Rodeo Show for 28 years before his passing in 2017.
