Reigning World Champion Tyler Waguespack Talks Gearing Up for another NFR

Three-time and reigning World Champion Steer Wrestler Tyler Waguespack is gearing up for another trip to the Thomas & Mack.

He went with his dad and some friends on an elk hunt before heading home to start practicing again after ending his summer run early. Waguespack only spent a week in the Northwest before he and his wife decided to head home. With 40 head of steers waiting on him, Waguespack is going to work.

Looking forward to December, Waguespack will be riding Casper at this year’s Finals with Tyler Pearson hazing for him. The preparation for their equine partners is just as important as preparation and practice for cowboys.

“He’ll get two, maybe three, steers a day on him starting November 1 going through about the 15th, 16th. Then he’ll go off and see one of the vets and get everything injected and that kind of stuff. Then he’ll have rest until the NFR starts,” Waguespack said about Casper’s routine.

When it comes to running at the Thomas & Mack, everyone has to have a gameplan and their ducks in row. It has an atmosphere that gets adrenaline pumping and it is a place that Waguespack thrives.

He goes into this year’s Finals ranked No. 2 in the World with his sights set on another Gold Buckle.
