After toughing things out to win the 2023 PRCA Bull Riding World Championship, Ky Hamilton will need some time off in 2024.

Hamilton dislocated his right shoulder twice in one week, he announced on a teaser for the Luke Branquinho Show on Monday. He ultimately ended up with a torn labrum that will require surgery and a six-month recovery time.

“The worst part is, I feel I was riding just as good as I was at the Finals, so it’s just kind of a freak deal that sucks,” Hamilton said.

The two shoulder dislocations came in Denver and Fort Worth and between them, Hamilton went 2-for-2 at the Rodeo Rapid City Xtreme Bulls before he was officially sidelined.

Despite being scheduled for shoulder surgery on Feb. 21, Hamilton told ProRodeo.com that he remains optimistic about defending his Gold Buckle.

“I think I’ll still have enough time to make the Finals. The injury bug is just part of it. If you want to play the game, you have to take the pain.”
