Reid Oftedahl is continuing his recovery after a scary injury at the 2022 NFR that occurred on Dec. 2.

Oftedahl told the PRCA via text that he was diagnosed with a Grade 3 Diffuse Axonal Injury, which is the shearing of the brain’s long connecting nerve fibers. He also suffered a C7 cervical vertebrae fracture in his neck.

After the injury, Oftedahl was on a ventilator for four days.

According to an update posted on Caring Bridge Oftedahl arrived at a recovery facility in Mesa, AZ on Dec. 16.

The rodeo community is coming together to ensure the Oftedahl family does not have to worry about money while Reid makes his recovery. Currently, a GoFundMe established by Reid’s close friend sits at just over $90,000 as of Dec. 20. Phenom Genetics has also raised money through an auction which included Stetson Wright’s vest he wore throughout the 2022 season signed by all of the roughstock athletes that sold for over $20,000.

Oftedahl told the PRCA that he expects to make a full recovery.
