Redding Rodeo: Recap, Highlights and Payouts

BY BRETT NIERENGARTEN @PRORODEOBRETT

The Redding Rodeo concluded in front of a sold out crowd Saturday night and paid out more than $5,000 to the winners in six of seven events.

In bareback riding, world No. 1 Jess Pope continued his domination by riding Bridwell Pro Rodeo’s Ted for 86 points to edge out seven-time NFR qualifier Orin Larsen by a half-point. It was Larsen’s first rodeo since being injured in San Angelo.

Dalton Massey was the steer wrestling champion with an aggregate time of 8.5 seconds on two. Massey won the First Round with a 4.1 second run and finished second in Round 2.

Team ropers Zach Kilgus/Jake Edwards were 12.1 seconds to win the rodeo. They also won the Rowell Ranch Roundup the same weekend to bring in over $6,000 in California.

In saddle bronc riding, Kade Bruno won the rodeo on the last ride of the rodeo with 85 points on Corey & Lange’s Teardrop. Wade Sundell had taken the lead with 84.5 points earlier in the same performance and finished second in the rodeo.

Tie-down roping was won by 2019 World Champion Haven Meged, he was 8.3 seconds or faster on both of his runs.

The rodeo was a two-header in all of the timed events except barrel racing and a one-header in the roughstock.

In barrel racing, Jennifer Kalafatic took advantage of being top of the ground on Friday night to race to a time of 17.38 seconds. Megan Champion finished .01 behind.

Bull riding was won by Jake Gardner, whose 87.5 point ride was tops among the 14 cowboys to make the whistle.
