Redding Rodeo: Recap, Highlights and Payouts

The stretch of three PRCA Playoff Rodeos in California in a four weeks came to an end on Saturday in Redding with a rodeo that paid around $200,000.

The crowds for the three-day event witnessed the No. 1 man in the world win two of the seven events, a rookie get the biggest win of his 2023 season and a $2 million cowboy do something he has never done before in is career.

Let’s start with those top-ranked cowboys, tie-down roper Riley Webb and bull rider Ky Hamilton.

Webb finished second in Round 1 and fourth in Round 2 to win the rodeo by one tenth over Jake Pratt. He won $6,172 in Redding and now has twice as much money as the next closest cowboy.

As for Hamilton, he rode for Brookman’s Far West for 85.5 points in the first performance and watched as no one could best it in the next two perfs. Only five bull riders made the whistle for the weekend.

In bareback riding, reigning College National Champion Ty Pope was took the top prize with 87.5 points on Brookman’s SOS. Pope (No. 24) is one of nine rookie bareback riders currently ranked in the Top 25.

In steer wrestling, Curtis Cassidy won a Playoff Rodeo in California for the first time in his career. Cassidy has made over $2.1 million in his career and made eight NFRs, but none of that was from a first place finish in Red Bluff, Clovis or Redding.

Other champions were Dan Williams Jr./Cody Stewart in team roping (11.1 seconds on two) Q Taylor in saddle bronc riding (88.5 points) and Miley Bunting in barrel racing (17.32 seconds).
