The Redding Rodeo is back for its 76th installment and kicks off on May 16 on The Cowboy Channel and The Cowboy Channel+. The first Redding Rodeo took place back in 1948 and Sheriff John Balma is credited with creating the the rodeo after growing up in the area and becoming the Chief of Police for Redding in 1939.

FORMAT

The Redding Rodeo is a simple format to understand. In roughstock events, the highest score on one head wins. In timed events, other than barrel racing, athletes compete in two rounds over the course of the three-day rodeo, and the fastest on two is crowned champion. In barrel racing, cowgirls are given one opportunity to post the fastest time and be crowned champ.
