Range Days Rodeo: Recap, Highlights and Payouts

BY BRETT NIERENGARTEN @PRORODEOBRETT

The Range Days Rodeo in Rapid City, South Dakota had a rare Wednesday finish as the PRCA rodeo ran from Monday-Wednesday following Sunday night’s Xtreme Broncs Finals.

The rodeo was a one-header in each event and paid a total of just over $96,000.

Tanner Aus was the bareback riding champion by 4.5 points with 85.5 aboard Burch Rodeo’s Tequila Time. Aus has won 10 rodeos this season and three of them have come in North or South Dakota.

In steer wrestling, Tee Burress won more than $2,4000 for his 4.3-second run. He was one of five cowboys faster than 5.0 seconds.

Brent McInerney/Tanner McInerney were 5.2 seconds to win the team roping, it was the first time either of the circuit rodeo cowboys had competed in the PRCA since Rodeo Grand Island on Feb. 26.

Saddle bronc riding was won by 2021 NFR qualifier Kolby Wanchuk with 87 points. Wanchuk, who is No. 10 in the PRCA World Standings, edged Logan Cook and Shorty Garrett by a half point and full point respectively.

Trey Young was the fastest tie-down roper by more than a second with an 8.5-second run. Young has placed at 7-of-10 rodeos he has entered in August.

Barrel racing was the lone tie of the rodeo as Lisa Lockhart and Sabra O’Quinn were both 17.33 seconds, just one hundredth of a second in front of Ashley Day. Lockhart has been an NFR stalwart for more than a decade, but right she is on the outside looking in at No. 20 in the world.

Lastly, Stetson Wright added to his record-breaking money count in 2022 by winning the bull riding with an 86-point ride on Burch’s Spirit World.
