STEVE WRUBEL

We are rolling into another week of rodeo with big money to be won. From Cheyenne Frontier Days to California Rodeo Salinas, the saddle bronc riders will be matching up with some of the best bucking horses with a chance to make big moves in the PRCA World Standings.

As Sage Newman holds onto No. 1 in the PRCA World Standings Kade Bruno holds on to his place inside the Top 5. Three Wright’s and four Canadian bronc riders also hold a sought-after spot inside the Top 15 and with the completion of the Calgary Stampede and the NFR Open, over $2.5 million has recently been paid out.

Take a look at your current Top 20 in the PRCA World Saddle Bronc Standings.

No. 2 Stetson Wright, $156,292

After a win at the Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo, Wright went on to the Calgary Stampede where he would make the Finals in both of his events. Matching up with C5 Rodeo’s Bad Intentions, Calgary Stampede’s Zorta Pround and Macza Rodeo’s Little Muffin, Wright’s scores got higher in every round. He would be an 88 in the Semifinals to secure a spot in the Finals where an 84-point ride would land him fourth when the dust settled.

No. 3 Zeke Thurston, $153,112

Another highlight of the Stampede was Canada’s own three-time World Champion going all the way to the Semifinals. Placing in all three rounds of Pool A, Thurston was the No. 1 cowboy from his pool to move on to the Semifinals. His highest marked ride in Calgary happened twice when he was 86.5 points two times, the second time, his ride aboard Borderline Untimely left him just out of coming back to the Final Four.

No. 4 Kade Bruno, $145,820

Bruno cinched his second consecutive NFR Open Saddle Bronc Riding title. With 85.5 points on Mo Betta Rodeo’s Sue City Sue, Bruno tied in the Finals but when the tie-breaker was done, he was your National Champion that added over $20,000 to his season earnings. The Idaho bronc rider now trails the No. 3 hole by less than $10,000.

No. 5 Dawson Hay, $116,097

Hay picked up what might be one of the most monumental wins of his career when he added to his family’s legacy. Hay picked Calgary Stampede’s Xplosive Skies in the Calgary Stampede Finals and the two matched up to be 92 points and win the Calgary Stampede. This followed his 91-point ride on Calgary Stampede’s Come Along to win the Semifinals. Hay left Calgary with the coveted bronze and $50,000 prize.
