The front runners in PRCA Bull Riding World Standings for the 2023 season have been none other than traveling partners and top notch-duo, Stetson Wright and Ky Hamilton. Hot on their heels have been some of bull ridings best meaning the top spot in the World, could go to anybody come December.
No. 1 Steston Wright, $218,863
Wright captured his second Cheyenne Frontier Days Bull Riding Title after three big scores landed on the board. It kicked off with a 90-point ride in Performance 5 before he went 86 in Performance 6. His second 90-point ride on the week came in the Semifinals aboard Dakota Rodeo’s Trump Train. But it was the Finals at the Daddy of ‘Em All where Wright did what he does best, he outdid his score from the previous day on the same bull when he went 91.5 points to win it.
No. 4 Sage Kimzey, $146,158
The seven-time World Champion has been battling injuries the past two seasons and although he had surgery on August 2, he also had success come his way right before. A second-place finish at Ogden Pioneer Days was worth $6,600 while covering Four Star Rodeo’s Ghost Town in Salinas was worth $2,700. He also placed in the average to add another $2,600.
No. 6 Tristen Hutchings, $123,011
Hutchings stays at the top of his game, making impressive rides and cashing in. An 80point ride on Andrews Rodeo’s Old Gringo at the Utah Days of ’47 Rodeo landed him in the Gold Medal Round where he went 86.5 points on Andrews Rodeo’s Miller Time. His success in Salt Lake added over $15,000 to his earnings before he won Fiesta Days with a 91.5 and the Dodge City Roundup Xtreme Bulls with an 88.5. The two wins combined added another $15,000 to his season.
No. 10 Trey Kimzey, $96,454
After a trip to Calgary, the younger Kimzey found the pay window again in Salinas, California. An 83-point ride on Sweet Justice of Rosser Rodeo was enough for fifth in the Go-Round and the average. He added $2,000 to his earnings in California. His most recent pay day came in Dodge City, Kansas at the Xtreme Bulls. An 88-point ride on Frontier Rodeo’s Glory Days and he claimed another $3,500.
No. 16 Trey Benton III, $81,514
The last two weeks of July were good to the seven-time NFR qualifier. It started at Utah Days of ’47 Rodeo when he rode D&H Cattle’s Pearl Snap Fever for 88.5 points in Round 1 to go on to the Gold Medal Round. He matched up with Sankey Pro Rodeo and Phenom Genetics’ Arctic Assassin to be 90 in the Gold Medal Round and win the gold. He carried that momentum into Spanish Fork, Utah’s Fiesta Days Rodeo Xtreme Bulls to go 90 again and tie for the win. Benton left Utah with almost $27,000 added to his earnings.
