PRCA Bull Riding Standings Update, Feb. 7: Cody Teel Takes Early Lead after Fort Worth Win

After a win at the FWSSR, 2012 PRCA World Champion Cody Teel is back on top of the world.

Two months into 2024 and the PRCA Bull Riding World Standings had their first big shakeup thanks to the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. With the Texas Swing underway, the standings will continue to see big changes.

Cody Teel took the FWSSR and is your current No. 1 bull rider in the PRCA World Standings. Here is a look at the Top 20 heading into the San Antonio Stok Show and Rodeo.

1. Cody Teel, $39,489

Teel is coming off his first NFR appearance since 2016 and has put together a great start to his 2024 season. Teel took the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo with an 87-point ride in the Finals to earn over $23,000 for the event. Earlier this season, Teel was crowned Texas Circuit Finals Champion after earning 255 points on three to win over $10,000 in total at the Circuit Finals.

2. TJ Gray, $35,047

Gray has had a great start to the 2024 year and has cashed big checks at each of the two big rodeos thus far. At the National Western (Colorado), Gray earned over $10,000 thanks to a round win with an 86.5-point ride that earned him over $7,000. He would earn an additional $3,000 in the Finals. It was the same story in Fort Worth, where Gray won a round with another 86.5-point ride to earn over $6,000.

3. Jace Trosclair, $32,111

Trosclair is riding early season success into the Top 5. Trosclair started his season back in October with a win at the Fort Bend County Fair & Rodeo (Texas) with an 80-point ride to win over $3,500. He followed that up with a strong showing at the Southeast Circuit Finals (Florida) where he made over $9,000. His most recent payday came at the National Western where he placed second in a round to make $2,400.

4. Creek Young, $31,970

Creek Young, a three-time NFR qualifier by Age 23, is off to a great start this year even though he didn’t have a great showing in Fort Worth. Young placed second in a round and won $2,300 at the rodeo. Prior to Fort Worth, Young was unstoppable. He won the Prairie Circuit Finals before heading to the SWELS - Xtreme Bulls in Fort Worth where he was one of two to cover two bulls and get the win after going 179.5 on two. Young had the highest-marked ride of the event at 92 points in the opening round.

5. Mason Moody, $29,582

Moody has yet to earn a substantial check this calendar year, but because of a great start to the regular season back in October, he finds himself in the Top 5. Moody opened the 2024 season with a Badlands Circuit Finals (North Dakota) win after scoring 228 points on three. In total, Moody won over $13,000 at the Circuit Finals. His next big payday came at the New Years Eve Buck & Ball (Wyoming), where he placed second in the opening round with an 83-point ride to earn over $4,000.

6. Brody Yeary, $27,386

Yeary had a great showing at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo where he won the opening round of his bracket with an 86.5-point ride. Yeary made the Wildcard Round where he advanced through to the Semis. In the Semis, Yeary earned $4,000 after an 87-point ride and would advance to the Finals. While he wouldn’t make the full eight in the Finals he would still place third based on his previous rides and earn an additional $8,000.

7. Chase Dougherty, $26,775

Dougherty’s best showing came at back-to-back Xtreme Bulls Events before the New Year. Dougherty won the Cord Mccoy’s Xtreme Bulls Event (Oklahoma) with an 86-point ride to earn over $5,000. He followed that up with a second-place finish at the Queen Creek Xtreme Bulls (Arizona) to earn an additional $4,200.

8. T Parker, $25,079

The reigning Resistol Rookie of the Year took the National Western with an 84-point ride in the Finals to start off his 2024 calendar year. In Fort Worth, he earned nearly $20,000 after placing second in the Finals with an 84-point ride that earned him $12,000 alone.

9. Clayton Sellars, $23,826

Sellars is back in the PRCA and back at full health and it is showing in his bull riding. Sellars most recently placed second in the Finals and first in the average at the Rodeo Rapid City Xtreme Bulls (South Dakota). Sellars had rides of 86 and 87 points to earn more than $8,000 total.

10. Hayes Weight, $23,418

After his NFR debut in December, Weight’s best stretch of the young season came the week before the New Year, starting with a third-place finish at the Chase Hawks Rough Stock Rodeo (Montana) where he went 83.5 points to win over $5,500. The following weekend Weight was the top earner at the New Year’s Eve Buck & Ball with over $9,000 in earnings thanks to an 89 and 85-point ride.

11. Taylor Toves, $22,890

Toves earned nearly $8,000 at the Texas Circuit Finals with a third-place finish after an 89-point ride in Round 4 was good enough to put him third in the Average despite making the whistle just once. Toves placed second in a round at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo to earn an additional $5,000 towards his season as the only one to cover his bull that night.

12. Fulton Rutland, $22,722

Rutland’s best showing of the year came at the Fort Worth Xtreme Bulls event where he placed second in the Finals and the Average after going 176.5 points on two. Rutland went 86.5 points in the Finals for the second-place finish after going 90 in Round 1. In total, he earned over $17,000 at the event.

13. Dustin Boquet, $20,460

Bouquet’s earnings to date have come from just four checks, the first of which came at the Northwest Florida Championship Rodeo back in October. Boquet won the rodeo with an 85-point ride to earn just over $3,000. His next out came at the Heart O’Texas Rodeo where he earned another win with an 87-point ride. His biggest payday was at the Chase Hawks Rough Stock Rodeo where he placed second after an 84.5-point ride which earned him over $7,700.

14. Braydan Kilcrease, $19,372

Kilcrease is off to a great start in his rookie season. He won a round at the National Western and earned over $7,000 total in Denver. His most recent payday came at the Alexandria Pro Rodeo (Louisiana) where he took the win with an 86-point ride and earned $1,800

15. Maverick Smith, $18,387

Smith won a round at the Fort Worth Stock Show and rodeo with an 87-point ride to earn over $2,000. His best payday came at the Bucking Battle in Bismark (North Dakota), where he earned over $4,500 after an 81-point ride.

16. Laramie Mosley, $18,024

Mosley is as healthy as he has been in recent years and he is vying for his first NFR appearance in 2024. He earned over half his season earnings at Bulls in the Ballpark (Texas). There he took the win with an 87-point ride to earn over $10,750.

17. Jackson Ward, $17,699

Ward had a great first week of February where he took Rodeo Rapid City with an 87-point ride. The win earned Ward $5,273 and jumped him inside the Top 20 in the PRCA World Standings.

18. Lukasey Morris, $16,876

All of Morris’ earnings came before the New Year with a second-place finish at the Heart O’ Texas Rodeo and two wins shortly after. The second-place finish earned him over $4,000. Less than 10 days later Morris took two straight rodeos starting with the Bucking Battle in Bismark where he was marked 84 points to win over $6,500. His next out was a 90-point ride at the Arizona State Fair Xtreme Bulls to get the win and earn an additional $5,000.

19. Stran Smith, $15,200

Smith’s biggest payday of the year came at the Industry Hills Charity Pro Rodeo (California) where he was marked 74 points to place second and earn over $4,300.

20. Jeter Lawrence, $14,780

Lawrence had a strong showing at the Rodeo Rapid City Xtreme Bulls where he placed second in the Average and took the Final Round with an 88-point ride. Lawrence earned over $10,000 at the rodeo.
