BY BRETT NIERENGARTEN @PRORODEOBRETT

The youth movement taking over bareback riding has been one of the biggest stories in rodeo and today, we’re going to look at the stats of three bareback riders 21 or younger.

First, there’s 15th ranked Dean Thompson, who recently climbed from the No. 19 into the final NFR spot. Despite being ranked No. 15, Thompson is better than his position in the World Standings in 5-of-6 statistical categories. That includes first in Qualified Rides, Top 5 in Riding Percentage and Top 10 in Go-Round Wins.

Another name to watch down the stretch is Rocker Steiner, one of the biggest personalities in ProRodeo. He has, however, been a little less noticeable this season but that’s quickly changing. Steiner is currently amid a stretch in which he has made four rides marked 87 points or more since Aug. 31. He is No. 6 in the world, but now ranks in the Top 5 in Average Score, 90+ Point Rides, 85+ Point Rides and Go-Round Wins.

Last but certainly not least is Keenan Hayes - the rookie who leads the PRCA World Standings by almost $75,000. Hayes notably has 51 rides of 85+ when the next closest cowboy has 36 and 23 Go-Round Wins when No. 2 has 18. Simply put, he remains head and shoulders above the rest.
