PRCA Bareback Riding Standings Update Aug. 22: Clayton Biglow and Orin Larsen Make Big Moves

Biglow

MACI BERRY

The bareback riding in 2023 continues to be a battle no matter the age, experience or World Titles beside a cowboy’s name. Your Top 5 in the PRCA World Standings remains the same as last week, with rookie Keenan Hayes in the lead and Leighton Berry in No. 2.

Rookie Sam Petersen and two-time NFR qualifier Taylor Broussard are now holding down the final two spots in the Top 15 as those ranked 14 through 18 are separated by less than $6,000.

No. 6 Clayton Biglow, $122,912

Since July 24, there has not been a rodeo that Biglow entered that he did not pull a check and it has resulted in a huge jump in the standings. The last three rodeos ended with Biglow as the champion. A 90.5 on Calgary Stampede’s Yippee Kibitz at the Canby Rodeo (Oregon) was the highest of the three. Combined, Canby Rodeo, Cassia County Fair and Rodeo (Idaho) along with Moses Lake Round-Up Rodeo (Washington), Biglow added over $12,400 to his earnings.

No. 7 Orin Larsen, $120,373

Larsen jumped up three spots after cashing in at both Canby Rodeo and the Fallon County Fair and Rodeo (Montana). In Oregon, it was an 86-point ride on Bridwell Pro Rodeo’s Hay Wagon that was worth over $2,000 before it was an 86.5-point ride in Montana. There, his matchup was C5 Rodeo’s Black Feathers and the two put up a score of 86.5 to finish second. This was the bang for his buck of the weekend coming in at over $6,000.

No. 15 Taylor Broussard, $83,276

Raking in almost $7,000 last week, Broussard finds himself now sitting in the Top 15 after a big win came his way in Idaho. With an Aggregate total of 174 on two head, he cinched the Caldwell Night Rodeo and over $4,000. From there, he placed in both Baker, Montana and Gooding, Idaho.

No. 16 Dean Thompson, $82,967

The rookie bareback rider is holding on tight to the bubble. He placed at three different rodeos this weekend to keep himself in the running for a possible National Finals Rodeo qualification. A second-place finish in the Aggregate at the Caldwell Night Rodeo was followed up with another $4,400 pay day at the Fallon County Fair and rodeo. He wrapped it up with an 85-point ride in Gooding to be fifth.
