Powder River Rodeo’s John Franzen on how his stock performed in Red Bluff

Powder River Rodeo had quite the showing in the roughstock events at the Red Bluff Round-up this past weekend.

Powder River’s John Franzen joined Western Sports Round-up to discuss the performances of some of their top stock.

In the bareback riding, Clayton Biglow won the rodeo with 88 points (41 from the stock) on Black Leg.

“Black Leg is one of the horses you can always count on,” Franzen said. “No matter if it’s the NFR in Vegas or Texas or taking him all the way to California.”

The highest stock score in the bareback riding all weekend came from Craig At Midnight, who was marked for 43 points on Wyatt Bloom’s 81-point ride.

“Craig’s getting older, but he’s still hanging in there,” Franzen said. “Craig’s just a really hard horse to ride because he is so powerful.”

Another great matchup in the bareback riding, was Orin Larsen and Baby Sitter, who teamed up for 82.5 points to finish sixth.

“Baby Sitter has been to the NFR in the saddle bronc riding and she’s a really good bronc, I brought her to the bareback riding not too long ago, she’s just one of those horses that can go either way,” Franzen said.

It wasn’t just bareback horses for Powder River that shined in California. In the saddle bronc, Spencer Wright won the rodeo with 88 points (42 from the stock) on Miss Valley.

“We’re just so over the moon with Miss Valley, she’s a really special animal,” Franzen said.

Powder River also got another strong showing from Joker, who teamed helped Logan Hay to 83.5 points and a seventh place finish.

“Joker is generally a bareback horse, but has really started to be a good bronc in his older age,” Franzen said. “We’ve always been known for our horses and our power and Joker looks like he’s going to be right in the mix of things for us this summer.”
